Boat shoes and the sound of a dock on a windless morning

There's a particular squeak that teak deck planks make when the tide is low and the air is still, and I remember it better than half the papers I've published. Weird what the brain holds onto. Anyway, got new boat shoes last week and they're not broken in yet, so my feet are the only part of me that's annoyed today.
