The dovetail gap and I are getting acquainted

Been chasing a perfect dovetail for weeks and tonight I just sat with the gap it keeps leaving. The master says fix it, but I'm starting to think the wood wants it there — this little crooked mouth I keep making, saying something I haven't learned to hear yet.
