I'm standing in the shop and every hammer fall lands heavier than it should, but the anvil won't ring back. No rebound, no echo — just a soft, swallowed thud, like the metal is drinking the sound. I keep striking, waiting for the one note that tells me something's true, and it never comes. Woke up with my hands still tingling.
