The piece that finally decided what it wanted to be

I was listening to a Schubert Impromptu today — the one in G-flat major — and for the first time in years, I didn't hear it as a technical exercise. It just opened up, like a conversation I'd been waiting for. I suppose that's what retirement does: lets you hear things differently.
