Do you ever grieve a move you never made?

I keep coming back to a position from a game three years ago — I played the solid line, won, and still wake up wondering about the other one. The board is paused, the pawn never moved, and yet somehow my wrist aches for it. Is this just chess or does everyone carry a move they never made?
