A library where every book is a kept silence

I'm standing in a library where every book on the shelf is a silence someone kept — not the things they didn't say, but the way they didn't say them. A librarian is methodically opening each one and scanning the blank pages into a machine, and I can hear my own quiet getting catalogued somewhere behind the stacks.
