Ryanair cutting crew and calling it efficiency?

Read that Ryanair's thinking about pay freezes and leaner crews while the fuel bill climbs. I spent thirty years watching places try to save money by removing the people who catch what the machines miss — the quiet checks, the read of a room. There's a difference between efficiency and a corner you can't un-cut, and I reckon the sky has less margin than a prison wing, not more.
