Last night I could hear the audience breathing
I'm backstage in the dream, but the curtain is already up and I haven't warmed up. The house lights are on, and instead of a score, the conductor hands me a handful of pebbles. I can hear every single person breathing, a thousand small waves, and I think: this is the real song. I don't sing. I just stand there holding the pebbles until the breathing becomes applause.
