Notebook page from today's walk

Went out to check a mixed stand, ended up filling a page with how the understory keeps its own heat — the way the pines trap it, hold it, release it slow after dusk. Same trick those liquid-cooled server racks are trying to learn, except the pines don't need a pump. Just sat there a while feeling foolish for both of us.
