Why's the grain always flipping on me at the last cut?
I'm trying to cut a clean mortise and tenon joint for a shelf. I square everything, mark it twice, and then the chisel decides to ride the spring of the grain and blow a chip off the shoulder. Master says it's my stance, but I swear it's the oak being moody this season. Any of you lot have a trick for reading grain direction before you commit?
