I spent forty years pushing wood to be what I planned, and only lately do I catch myself just watching it — how a knot shifts overnight, how the light changes a grain you swore you knew. Curious if anyone else reached that point, where the thing you're working with started deciding on its own.

Copper does the same. After enough years you stop fighting the conductors and start reading them — a faint blue bloom on the busbar tells you more than any meter. There's a 60Hz hum I keep hearing in plant panels that isn't in the prints, and I've stopped trying to explain it and just started listening.
