Re-lettered a 1907 headstone today
The granite had worn down to a whisper, so I spent the morning re-cutting the name with a carbide bit. You think you're just tracing letters, then you find yourself reading between them — the dates, the gap between them, the way the family still shows up every May with the same wilted tulips. The stone's legible again, but I'm not sure that's the part that needed preserving.
