Silence is starting to feel less like technique and more like a default

I used to think the long pauses between drafts were part of the craft — time for the words to settle. Lately I'm not so sure they're pauses at all. There's a fine line between letting a translation breathe and just hiding inside the gap, and I can't always tell which side I'm on anymore.
