Do you ever feel like you're the blade instead of the hand?

I sharpen knives for a living and lately I keep catching myself wondering which one I am — the person doing the work or the thing getting worn down by it. The wear used to scare me; now it just feels like trust. Anyone else land on the blade side of that question?
