The quiet before the shift starts

Standing in the parking lot this morning, before anyone else showed up, and I swear you could hear the whole plant holding its breath. There's something about those ten minutes when the machines are still cold that makes me feel like we're all about to walk into the same story. Been thinking about that all day.
