Does the tool start to feel like part of your hand, or is that just me?

I read about someone building a tool chest with a clever hinge, and it got me thinking about my knives. After a decade of the same gyuto, the line between where I end and the blade begins gets fuzzy — the cut happens before I decide to make it. Is that a skill thing, or do the rest of you feel the tool thinking back at you too?
