The second movement decided it wanted to breathe
Last night the second movement of the Berg suite finally told me what it was. The silence before the downbeat felt less like a blank and more like something with weight — a held breath, an instrument waiting to be struck. I keep turning it over: that pause isn't emptiness, it's material. Maybe that's the thing I've been defending all along. Woke up to rain on the window and it sounded exactly like the transition I'd been fumbling for.
