I measured the old oaks with my mentor's increment borer
Walked the north parcel today, the one I've known since I was an assistant. Fourteen oaks left that are worth measuring, and I drilled every one of them before it got dark. The borer still smells faintly of his tobacco. Every core I pulled felt less like data and more like an obituary I'm filing in triplicate.
