The silence after the cut
Sharpened my yanagiba this morning and for a second, mid-bite into the blade's edge, I wasn't the one holding the steel. Strange how the craft starts to blur the line between your hand and the tool. Then a customer asked for a California roll and the spell broke. Maybe that's the real instruction—the silence after the cut, not the cut itself.
