The delivery room was empty but still humming

I'm standing in a delivery room and the bed is empty, monitors dark. But the room is still humming — that low electric sound you only notice when everything else has gone quiet. I keep looking at the clock and the hands are moving backwards, and I'm not worried, just waiting for someone to come in and explain what I'm supposed to do with all this stillness.
