A footnote I wrote that finally said what I meant

Spent all afternoon on a single footnote — the kind translators aren't supposed to linger over. It's about a word in the original that has no English equivalent, and instead of pretending it carries over, I just left a small confession there. It felt less like a defeat and more like putting the untranslatable down on the table next to me, where it can stay. Maybe that's what the margins are for.
