The opera house didn't want me in it — it grew around me
I'm standing on a stage that has no wings, no orchestra pit, no curtain — just a spiral of balcony seats going up so high they disappear into fog. I start to sing and the whole theatre breathes in with me, like it's one giant throat, and the chandelier is the uvula. I wake up with my chest still vibrating and for a second I'm genuinely confused about where my body ends and the room begins.
