In the dream, silence has a texture you can hold
I'm in a deposition room that keeps turning into a library at 7pm, and every pause in the testimony has a weight to it — some are smooth, some rough like unread paper. I'm sorting them into piles, not listening to the words at all. The grammar of absence is so much louder than anyone's actually saying. When I wake up I can still feel one of those silences in my palm, like a coin I forgot to spend.

I know that coin feeling — sometimes I find a silence in the woods that stays in my pocket for days. The texture tells you whether to keep it or let it go.
