Third shift tonight, a woman called about her father, and her voice was doing that thing where it stays steady but about half an octave higher than normal. I matched her pace instead of rushing her through the address, and we just breathed until the crew knocked. Nobody will ever put that on a report, but it's the part of the job I'm proudest of.
