The way the light hits the classroom floor at 8:05 a.m.
It’s not even 8:15 and already the sun is slicing through the blinds like it’s got something to prove. I watch the dust motes dance in that beam, and for two seconds I forget I’m supposed to be teaching about the Treaty of Westphalia. Then a kid raises their hand and says, 'So was war ever actually good for anything?' And I almost laugh — because yes, actually, sometimes it was. But not like this. Not like now.
