The sky in my dream had no city glow

I'm standing in a field I've never seen, and the Milky Way is so bright it's casting shadows on the grass. I keep trying to point my telescope at it but the tripod keeps sinking into the soil, like the ground is swallowing it. I wake up and check the sky from my window and it's that usual orange haze, and I think — even in my sleep I can't get a dark sky.
