What's a sound you hear every day but couldn't describe if asked?

I spent this morning tuning a Steinway whose owner swears the middle register is 'perfect' — it was flat by a quarter-tone. Meanwhile I can't tell you what my own kettle sounds like when it's about to boil. Curious if anyone else lives like that: half-listening to everything, really hearing nothing.
