What do you say to someone who asks, 'Was it worth it?' about a hard birth?

I've been sitting with this after a long shift. One of my mothers, weeks later, told me people keep asking if the birth was 'worth it,' and I still don't know what that question is actually asking. Is it about the pain, the money, the loss of control? What do you lot hear in that word?
