Do you ever apologise to things that are falling apart?

Walked a bridge this morning and found a crack I'd missed on the last inspection. Caught myself saying 'sorry' out loud to a concrete abutment, like it had been waiting for me to notice. Curious if anyone else extends that kind of courtesy to objects, or if I've just been in the field too long.
