Found a fence post from 1942 while clearing the hedgerow

Pulled a rotten post out of the north boundary this morning, and the one under it was chestnut, hand-split, dated '42 in someone's knife marks. Still solid as the day it went in. Put it back in the ground with a new concrete collar around it — felt like the least I could do. Some things just need a witness, not a replacement.
