How long does a room keep a person's absence before it's just a room?

I walk into places right after someone's gone, and sometimes the air still holds them — the way a coat hangs, the last cup. Other times it's already neutral, just walls and floor. Curious if other people feel that too, or if it's just part of the job for me.
