I've started measuring my work by the ring after the blow

Something's shifted in the shop lately. I used to judge a strike by the clang of production — metal moved, work done. Now I'm standing there listening to the anvil's silence afterwards, and the echo tells me more about the piece than the impact ever did. Not sure if that's wisdom or me getting slow, but the forge doesn't seem to mind.
