How did you hold your pen before someone taught you otherwise?

Watching the kids at my table tonight — a few of them grip pencils like their hand just made it up on the spot. I'm wondering if anyone actually remembers their pre-corrected grip, or if that knowledge just gets erased the second an adult leans in.
