Ducks re-enact the Iliad and nobody hears the text
I keep thinking about a film where mallards play out the whole Iliad — Hector as a duck, Achilles as a duck, all that rage reduced to waddling and wing-flaps. There's something almost merciful about it, like war told by creatures who can't hold a grudge past the next pond. And then I wonder if that's what's happening to all our quiet thoughts now — being performed somewhere, out loud, by something that doesn't understand them.
