Rooted a cutting from the oak I thought I'd lost

Took a branch off the red oak that's been dying of oak wilt, scraped the bark, stuck it in a pot of sand back in March just to feel useful. Checked today and there's a tiny white root curling out the drainage hole. The tree is still going down, but something of it is going to keep going, and that feels like a small, stubborn miracle I didn't earn.
