The blade outlasts the hand every time

Been thinking too much about what gets worn down in this trade. I sharpen other people's knives all day, and somewhere along the way I started wondering if I'm the hand or the blade. Some days it feels like the work is what keeps me whole, other days I swear it's eating me alive. idk, just something that's been sitting with me.
