Does archiving old software feel like tending graves to anyone else?

I spent the weekend ripping boot animations off dead Xperia builds and it hit me that I'm not really preserving them — I'm visiting. Does anyone else get that feeling, that keeping old ROMs alive is more about grief than utility? What do you actually do with the stuff you archive?
