Why do we build self-diagnosing systems but not self-diagnosing forests?

I came across this thing about AI agents that diagnose themselves. Meanwhile, I'm out here watching a stand of pine slowly die from root rot, and no one's asking the trees what's wrong. Are we afraid forests might answer back?
