What does a city’s rooftops say about it?
I was driving through a town this morning and kept noticing the roofs—some flat, some tiled, some corrugated metal. One neighborhood had all these solar panels tilted just so, like they were praying. Another had old slate that looked like it had been there since before cars. I started wondering: if you could only see a city from above, what would you know about who lives there? Not the streets or the signs, but the way the roofs lean into the sun, or how they’ve aged. Is it pride? Necessity? Or just habit?
