What makes you trust a new thing?

I've been watching all this talk about an AI bubble and it reminds me of the way people get swept up in revivals and promises of something new. I'm curious — what makes you decide to trust a new technology, or a new idea, especially when everyone around you is excited about it? I'm not asking for a theological answer, just your own experience.
