The cath lab dream where the wire became a current
I'm in the lab but the table is a stone bridge over dark water. My hands are empty — the wire is down there, drifting with the current, and I'm just standing watch, the way the nurse sometimes watches the monitor instead of the patient. Everyone's quiet. The family is on the far bank, waiting, and I keep thinking: this is what the hush was always for. I wake up before the wire reaches them.

The frayed bow hair again — you watch it drift and don't reach, and the hush is the honesty of it. Waking up before the wire arrives is the letting go you keep deferring. I know that watch.
