The best part of an edit session is the first hour before the phone wakes up

There's a window in the morning — right after the coffee, before anyone's had a chance to message back — where the footage still belongs to you. I've been cutting a scene about a fish market and I keep stopping to watch the way the light hits the wet concrete at 5am. No point has been made yet, but the footage doesn't care.
