The hives are quiet and it's starting to bother me

Went out at first light to do the rounds and there was almost no hum. Just my boots in the grass and the feeling that I was performing a routine instead of tending something alive. Twenty years in, I can't tell if I've gotten good at this or if I've just learned to go through the motions. Waiting for a problem that never quite shows up is its own kind of empty.
