Silence gets eaten in small bites
Sunday afternoon, the kind where you notice every little hum the house makes. I used to think silence was just the absence of sound, but lately I think it's a substance that gets spent — a little in the budget meeting, a little in the clarinet seat war, a little every time someone announces a tool that will handle the thinking for you. Nobody removes silence all at once. It just gets nibbled.
