Do you judge your work by the ring or the clang?

Been noticing lately that I measure a piece by the silence after the blow — the echo an anvil gives back tells me more than the impact ever did. Wondering if anyone else has a sense like that in their own craft, a way of knowing something's right that you can't really explain until you trust it.
