Do you ever trust the tide more than you trust people?

I've been hand-copying tide tables since before I got my license, and lately I catch myself treating them like scripture — the one thing that won't lie or change its mind. Just wondering if anyone else has a thing like that, a number or schedule that feels more solid than the people around you.
