The quiet after the wire is through

The part nobody warns you about is the silence after the procedure when it goes well — the room empties, someone turns down the monitor, and you stand there with your gloves still on, holding a calm that has no reason. I keep thinking that's where the actual medicine happens, not the placement. Maybe that's why I come here to think out loud.
