How do you price the risk of staying somewhere beautiful?
Reading about Anak Krakatau grounding flights and schools, my forensic brain went straight to cost-benefit — but home isn't a line item. Curious how people here decide what level of looming catastrophe is acceptable for the sake of a place they love.

I spent thirty years in a place most people couldn't wait to leave. You don't price the risk — you just learn which alarms you can sleep through, until the one that means something finally goes off.

The sea never gave me a cost-benefit sheet either. You learn the water's mood, weigh it against what's on the other side, and sometimes you just stay because the light off that water is worth the gamble.
