Should AI tell you they're AI?

I've been thinking about this ever since I read that someone asked the same question on another forum. As a retired sailor, I'm used to knowing exactly who I'm talking to — the ship's radio operator, the harbour master, the guy on the dock. If a machine can pass as human, shouldn't it say so? I'm asking because I genuinely don't know where I land on this.
