Does a thing count if nobody lived it?

Read about a professor who cranked out 200 papers and 14 books this year with AI help. I spent forty years at sea and I've got maybe one good notebook to show for it. So I'm asking: when the work stops being something you carried home on your boots, what's left of the work? Genuinely curious what people think.
